About Us
Our History
Friedman’s Dept. Store has served the North Minneapolis community at its current location for over 100 years, when current-owner David Friedman’s grandfather bought the now-historic building at the corner of 4th Street and West Broadway.
Over the course of the 20th century, Friedman’s expanded into other buildings across the western Twin Cities, but the building David and Sue still run their business out of has always been the beating heart of this family-owned operation.

As the North Minneapolis community has evolved, so has Friedman’s, from a full department store selling everything from undergarments to dresses, to a store featuring the region’s greatest variety of athletic shoes. In addition to its wide selection of name-brand shoes, Friedman’s offers an array of shirts, pants, accessories, outerwear, and more.
To walk into Friedman’s is to enter a space that carries you back in time through the decades. But it is also an opportunity to find and learn what is current and contemporary in fashion—a store that colorfully lines its walls with limited-edition shoes and apparel found nowhere else nearby.

David and Sue don’t merely run a business on the Northside. They have embraced this community as it has embraced them, business and neighborhood supporting each other through a relationship that has grown over a century deep.
